Kindergartners are funny part 2

Yesterday during my PM session I am explaining the centers for the day to the students. Everyone is quiet and listening, including the parent volunteer that was in the room. One of my little girls raises her hand to ask a question about what I think will pertain to the centers. I so should have known better! She tells me "Your belly is getting bigger!" The mom volunteer starts giggling as I agree with the student and go right about my explanation. Leave it to a 5 year old to be so blunt and honest! LOL

No More Shots!

On Friday I went for a consult with a high risk OB from Layola per request of my hematologist. The dr was really nice- walked in and said "I'm not really sure why you are here." I said- me either! Just a little background, some blood testing we had done in the fall showed that I had a blood clotting issue called MTHFR. My specialist felt that because of the risks with this I should start on a low dose heprin injection daily once we got pregnant. My regular OB didn't so much agree, but was going to leave the decision up to my high risk dr. Well, after 9 weeks of sticking myself daily I don't have to do the shots any more!!! I am so excited. He felt that with no personal or family history of any problems, and my other levels (medical terms I won't even try to remember!) were all normal... I didn't need it.
Another bit of good news along this journey! One less medication, one less dr I have to see, one more deep breath I can take. Tomorrow I will start my 14th week. We had a busy weekend of browsing Babies R Us with the Grandma's. I've got the car seats picked out, a few crib options, and a great noisy toy for my brother's baby-to-be (ha ha!). I can't wait to start the registry. 9:00, off to bed!

1st trimester screening

Last Wednesday I went for the 1st trimester screening. It was a 45 min ultrasound where they took a million, okay not quite that many but it seemed like it, pictures of the babies and did all sorts of measurements. They were checking for any chromosomal problems like downs syndrome, etc. They also drew blood, this time from my bad arm since the vein in my good arm popped at my last blood draw :(
Anyway... got a message today that everything came back negative for any problems. Both babies are in the "low risk" category for any chromosomal abnormalities. Yea! Another huge sigh of relief. Next ultra sound will be at 18 weeks. Maybe we'll get a chance to see what sexes the babies are.
What else-- I'm still feeling good. Aside from being so warn out and having to pee every 10 min (not practical when you teach kindergarten!). I have a consult with the high risk OB on Friday morning per my hematologist's request. We'll see how often they will want to see me throughout this pregnancy. My Mom took me for a long day of shopping on Monday for maternity clothes. Derek and I browsed Babies R Us, or should I say dragged him around... His eyes seemed to get wider and wider until he said "and we need two of all this stuff?" This weekend Derek's parents will be in town- more browsing at Babies R Us with the Moms! Kindergartners are so funny!

So today I told my kindergartners about the babies:

• One girl's eye's got really big and she said "Ohh... that's gonna hurt a lot"!
• Half the class said bye to my belly as they walked out.
• Another was telling me how her Mommy's belly got really big- would mine too?

All in all they seemed very excited. A few of course looked like they could care less- boys!

we made it to 12 weeks!

Ahh... now I can relax a little. I had my 12 week appointment today (I'm actually 12w, 2d). First I saw my OB for a regular check up. I got to hear the heartbeat with the doppler- the nurse said it was too early to hear the two separate heartbeats. She went over my blood results- everything looked good, just waiting for my thyroid extra screening to come back. I've lost 2 pounds but she wasn't concerned about that. She wants me to continue my blood thinner shots everyday but said to stop taking the low dose aspirin. Other than that, she said carry on as usual!
Next I went for the first trimester screening. I was so relieved to see 2 healthy looking babies in there. Whew... It took about 45 min to do the ultrasound. Lots of different shots, measuring, moving around. It was just a tech that did the ultrasound so she wasn't able to give any indication if things looked okay. The dr will call in about a week with the results.

Next week I see the high risk dr on Friday morning for a consult. That's about it for February. Maybe next week I'll be ready to post a belly shot. This week I just look like my father-in-law took me to Cold Stone too many times recently!

Happy Birthday this weekend to my Hubby :)

February 4th

Not much new to update. I'm still feeling good, just tired. Most nights I'm getting about 10 hours of sleep! Get it now while I can I guess. I have a feeling I will be busting out of my work pants soon. Time to go shopping! I am trying to keep up with eating right and often (aside from the Cheez-It's I was just munching on!).
My next dr appointment is Wednesday, February 11th. I see my OB at noon for my 12 week check up, then will go to Layola for the first trimester screening. There they will do some blood and ultrasound testing (I think) to check for any chromosomal abnormalities. I am anxious to see how the babies have grown. I will update again after that appointment.
